For artists like India Shawn, evolution comes with the job. The Los Angeles-born singer/songwriter was introduced to the idea of music as a profession for the first time after she was heard singing “Fallen” by Mya in a Best Buy parking lot as a teenager in Atlanta. This serendipitous encounter led the multihyphenate to a recording studio, and the journey from there presented the R&B singer with the realization of her wildest dreams.

Now, India Shawn operates in peace, exposing the intricacies of life through her lush, vulnerable songwriting while maintaining her livelihood through serene hikes in her hometown. Working with the likes of Chris Brown, Keri Hilson, Monica, and more, she takes pride in her pen.

“When I'm writing for other people, I have to get into their minds. And yeah, I think reshaping my magic, that's a good way to, to put it,” gleefully detailed the singer during a comprehensive conversation with Partlii Creative for The Quiet Part series. “I even think about the incredible writers I work with who let me kind of siphon their brilliance and their genius.”

She continued, “I think it is a reshaping of magic.”

In the songs she writes and performs for herself, she keeps the same level of real. Recently, she teamed up with D’Mile for Subject To Change. Executive produced by D’Mile and released through Vanta Music which he cofounded, the 6-track project also features Lucky Daye. 

“I think the mile is just the cheat code for everybody,” she reflected. “I think when D’Mile picks up the bass or a guitar… he just knows exactly what to do. He's such a channel and everything he plays is incredible and inspirational.”
